Wow I can't believe I'm here. We got off the plane and customs was packed with people. We waited a little less then an hour in line. We got all the bags together and as we were clearing customs I saw Jon and Ian Snyder waiting for us outside, it was really great to see them. We loaded all of the bags into Johns truck and took off for the YWAM base in San Salvador. The boys all rode in the back of the truck. The had so much fun back there and when we pulled into the base they were all laughing and Jake said to me "Gary you have to do that it was awasome".
We met the staff that works here at the base and also met up with Susan and Rena who are from pittsburgh and who were already here working with John. They cooked us a great dinner we had steak and rice, salad some fresh pineapple and a chocolate cake.
The boys took a swim in pool, they have a nice swimming pool here at the base to cool off in. Pictures to follow soon.
Dave lead a great group discussion after we all got cleaned up about what we we had seen on are way here. We talked about so many things and how God has played a part in our lives in different ways.
So it's 6am Sunday morning I'm laying in my bunk with a fan blowing on me it's hot here. I'm an AC type guy so this heat thing is going to take a bit of getting use to. :) This morning at 9am we are leaving for a remote town called ulusatan it's about 2 hours from the city. We are going to start our first work project which will be building the roof on the bakery in this small village. We will be there until some time on Tuesady. We are sleeping on the floor of a church in the village and John has plans for to spend time with the kids in the village playing soccer and some games. So I'm pretty sure this will be my last post until mid week.
Hayley Chloe and Trent I miss and love guys very much.

Day 1
6/17/2011 So friday night we all meet at Dave and Chrissy's house and we drove in a van that was loaned to us by another church. It was great drive we all talked and discussed what we will be doing in the coming week. The guys that had been here before told some stories about their last trip and what they expect to be happening during this trip. Overall it was great ride laughing about our GPS and the "recalculating" commercial from TV and listening to Nate and Drew do annoying voices until Dave and had had enough:).
Got to the hyatt after midnight and it was like checking into a hotel in Las Vegas. People all over the place and a long line. It was crazy. We found out later that United airlines had some kind of systems issue and all of the late flights from Dulles were canceled so that's why people we trying to get every last room. No issue for us we got our rooms and got a good night sleep, except I think I kept Ben awake with my snoring.
6/18/2011 We all had breakfast at the hotel. Ben had a plate with 3 muffins on it and he said to me," I could really go for a waffle but they don't have a waffle maker." Not 5 minutes later Drew comes over sits down with a plate of 3 muffins and says "hey this place does not have a waffle maker." ok our first lesson the Meyers boys only stay in the finest hotels that offer there guests a waffle maker. This hotel did not. "Come on Dave what is a true mission trip without a waffle maker let's get the right hotel booked next time"
At the airport we got all of our 20+ bags of luggage with all the great stuff collected for the kids inline and the nice folks at AA took us into a special line to help us get checked in. That process went really well until we found out about the embargo that is going on so we each could only check no bags, no extra bags could be checked. So we had 3 extra bags that we had to do something with. We decided to take them back to our van which is parked back at the hotel we stayed in. So the shuttle driver from the hotel who happens to be from El Salvador was awesome. He came back to the airport picked up Jake and I and we took the extra bags back to the van and then he brought us back to the airport again and we met up with the rest of the crew and we were off!!!

Last night at home for a while!
Well, first off I would like to say a big thank you to my wife Hayley for giving me this opportunity. She will be at home dealing with her company, crazy kids, a crazy spaz (our dog) and who else knows what else will happen while I'm gone. But I love her very much for all of her hard work and I know if anyone can handle it, it will be her. Chloe and trent have also been amazing in helping me great ready. I will miss all of them very much.
BIG Thank u's also to all of my amazing friends that have donated to this effort. I was really completely blown away by all of you, really just amazing I am extremely lucky to have people like you in my life!!!!
Ok, so it will be my intent to try and put all of what we are doing in El Salvador on the blog during our trip. So those of you who know me, know that I can not write a complete sentence in english. So please forgive me for all the mistakes in advance..... I may not be able to convince the guys to proof read before I post.
On friday night we will be driving to DC to stay over and catch our planes on Sat. So more to come as the trip begins.
Peace and Love, G.
